Olena Found a Bible in the Bin

- from Pastor Yevgeny, Ukraine
On the evening of September 5, our sister Olena got baptised! Before Olena came to Christ, she’d been very sick and spent a lot of time in hospital. One day she prayed for healing and promised to go to church after the hospital. At that very moment, she was filled with a feeling unknown to her before - peace and joy. After the hospital, she started going to an Orthodox Church, and unfortunately just learned many different rules, traditions and rituals. As for the knowledge of God Himself, she learned nothing.

Then she started attending Jehovah Witness gatherings, but she still didn’t find what her soul longed for. She didn’t experience the feelings she had felt in the hospital. She continued to seek God, attending various churches and religious groups in her village, but eventually she stopped looking and went back to her usual sinful life.

Olena worked as a janitor in high-rise buildings and one day, when she went to throw out the waste, she noticed a Bible. It wasn’t the usual Bible format. It was called, ‘Bible for Young People’. She took it and started reading. Not understanding anything, having many questions, she continued to read it.

One evening, her daughter came home and told her, “Mama, I found another Christian church called, ‘There is Hope’ and I liked it there. Let's go to their meeting together next Sunday.” Olena initially refused, saying that all churches are the same and she wouldn‘t find anything new for herself there. After constant appeals from her daughter, she agreed. How surprised and happy she was, when during worship, she saw that several people had the same Bible that she had, ‘Bible for Young People.’ Olena declared, “Finally, I felt the same feelings I had back then in the hospital!” Two years have passed since then. And on September 5, after coming to faith in Jesus, she was baptised.
